Celebrating The Mothers Of The World
The origins of modern Mother's Day date to 19th century America, when a woman named Ann Reeves Jarvis started the "Mothers' Day Work Club" — a club that would teach local women essential child-rearing skills. She later went on to organise the "Mothers' Friendship Day", during which mothers would gather to facilitate reconciliation between former Confederate and Union soldiers in post-civil war America.
In later years, after the passing of her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis's daughter wanted to continue the legacy of her mother and commemorate her lifetime of hard work and sacrifice. In 1908, she held a Mother’s Day celebration in Philadelphia, in partnership with a local department store. Hundreds of people attended to celebrate the mother in their lives. The success of this event prompted her to start a campaign to make Mother's Day a recognised holiday in the United States. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a measure that officially made the second Sunday of every May "Mother's Day".
The idea of Mother's Day quickly spread around the world. From Dubai to Paris, London to Beijing, people all over the globe now celebrate the mothers in their lives on a special day dedicated just for them.
How Jewellery & Heirlooms Connect Us To Our Mothers
For many of us, our mothers are the first women in our lives to teach us about love, care, and compassion. They are also the ones who pass down important family traditions and heirlooms. Jewellery is one of the most common heirlooms that are passed down from mother to daughter. By gifting these special heirlooms from generation to generation, mothers can leave a legacy that their daughters can cherish for years to come.
For many women, jewellery is not just a fashion accessory — it’s a sentimental piece that holds great meaning and value. It’s a reminder of our loved ones — a way to keep their memory alive. Wearing jewellery that has been passed down the generations maintains that connection to our mothers, grandmothers, and great grandmothers in a very special way. The jewellery keeps the legacy of our ancestral mothers alive and is a reminder of the powerful bond we share with them.
This Mother's Day, we celebrate all the mothers of the world — both past and present. We honour the women who have shaped and influenced our lives.
