Care Guidelines

Each piece of jewellery deserves love and care to ensure you prolong the sparkle and shine for longer.  We share basic care and maintenance guidelines to help protect your jewellery for longer, however please note these instructions will not repair any damage or support your item for a lifetime.  We cannot take any liability for damage caused using hazardous or other material used for cleaning purposes.

Yellow Gold
If treated right, gold jewellery should last for years, however, please note this is a soft metal and therefore is susceptible to scratches, and dents. We recommend the following guidelines are considered:

Chlorine, bleach and other cleaning and sanitising solutions cause damage to gold, therefore repeated exposure will eventually lead to the gold breaking, therefore please remove when using such substances, including cleaning products, spas, and pools.

Avoid wearing jewellery whilst bathing, the soap build-up may cause a film over jewellery over time, likewise, we recommend avoiding exposure to makeup, perfume, hairspray and lotions to avoid over exposure to harmful substances.

You may wish to consider removing jewellery when at the gym or for high-contact sports to avoid dents and film building through exposure of heat and perspiration.

Regularly clean your gold with 10-parts warm water and 2-parts dish soap. Pieces should be soaked for 2-4 hours, after which you will need to softly brush away any dirt before polishing with a jewellery cloth or glove.  Please take extra care with bracelets and necklaces as the chains are delicate and fragile and may break if handled with slight force.

Silver Gold
We use 9ct, 14ct, and 18ct gold for all our pieces to ensure your jewellery is prolonged for longer, this will not usually tarnish, however if exposed to the elements described in the yellow gold section you may experience some damage, therefore please follow the yellow gold care instructions.

We do use gold plating for certain customised items and jewellery pieces. If not stored and handled with care this can be exposed to substances which may cause some tarnishing, this is not classified as damage or faulty as it is a natural process of the materials used. To avoid tarnishing, we recommend storing items using the instructions below on how to best store your jewellery and recommend that you avoid exposing gold plated silver to water, perfumes, or lotions

Diamonds
Dirt, oil, and residue can lodge itself into diamond settings quickly, with the slightest film build up causing your diamond shine to dull, therefore we recommend cleaning pieces several times a year. The cleaning process includes:

Use 10-parts lukewarm water and 2-parts dish soap (do not use chlorine-based cleaners), add your jewellery and leave for 10-15minutes.  Remove the item and clean with a soft bristle brush.  Continue to follow this process twice after rinsing under clean running water (for earrings and smaller pieces plug the sink to avoid losing the piece).

Following the cleaning process, use a jewellery cleaning cloth or gloves to polish the jewellery.

Gems and Pearls
Freshwater pearls are at their best when worn against your skin due to the natural oil they are protected with, however, please avoid makeup, oils, lotions, perfume, and hairspray being applied directly to the pearl which will cause damage.  To remove any particles, we recommend using a soft clean dry cloth.

Freshwater pearls need hydration, therefore swimming in sea water will keep them protected, however the chlorine in swimming pools will cause damage, therefore we recommend avoiding this.

To keep pearls hydrated we recommend storing in their box, leaving in a dry or airless environment will crack the pearl along with turning yellow over time.  Likewise, to avoid scratched and damage we recommend that pearls are not worn with gold and other metals.

To maintain your pearls for a prolonged period we recommend checking for stretching, discoloration or fraying in the thread holding your pearls together. If the fine coiled wire between your clasp and the string is discoloured or green, the string has rotten and will therefore need restringing.  To obtain a quote for restringing pearls contact us on info@soeursjewellery.com

Likewise, gemstones should never be worn around hot water, harsh chemicals, and cleaners. You can clean most gemstones with a soft, damp cloth after wearing. Stones such as turquoise and emeralds should be cleaned using an untreated, dry, soft cloth only, do not use tissue paper or paper towels to clean as they can cause scratching.

Avoid extreme temperatures, humidity, and sunlight. Any contact with perfumes/ cosmetics and chemicals will cause discolouration to semi-precious metals. This is not a fault and can be avoided by caring for your jewellery as detailed above.

Thread Jewellery
Our thread jewellery is made using fine silk and is delicate.  We recommend avoiding water or other such circumstances which will weaken the thread. The size of the silk thread expands overtime and will naturally get looser, therefore please consider this when selecting sizes.

Storage
Ideally store your Soeurs pieces in a dark, cool, and dry place within the box provided to help reduce tarnishing, scratching, and tangling, unless your piece has pearls in which case ensure there is hydration available through air.

If you have opted for sustainable packaging and do not have the Soeurs box then use a clean, dry, fabric-lined box.  Each piece should be wrapped in a soft cloth individually.

Silver and Gold is a bendable precious metal, any pressure applied could cause damage. We would advise when transporting that your jewellery is kept within a box, so no external pressures is accidentally applied.

Scratches on gold, missing crystals, beads, pearls and diamonds are not classed as manufacturing faults if outside the 7-day return policy. However, we can replace missing elements after this time at a small repair fee wherever possible. Please contact us for a quote at info@soeursjewellery.com
